Domestic

Domestic cases may include divorce, separation, child custody, child support, alimony, post separation support and property division. Most domestic cases are not only emotionally draining but financially draining. We recommend our clients attempt mediation before initiating any court actions involving domestic issues. A good resource for mediation in this area is the Orange County Dispute Settlement Center.

Our firm handles domestic matters in Orange and Chatham Counties. Occasionally, we will go to Durham and Wake. Most courts have their own programs called “Family Court” and those programs can vary from county to county so it may be in your best interest to obtain an attorney in whatever county you and the children reside. “Family Court” was initiated to make the judicial process for domestic case quicker. You are assigned a Judge to handle your case and that Judge stays with your case and will be familiar with the details.

As part of your case, we may ask you to fill out certain affidavits and forms that the Court requires. We may also ask that you supply us with documents such as pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, etc. Everything you supply us with is kept confidential and the originals will be returned to you.
